Biography
Margaret Jo Feldman (born 1957, Los Angeles) is an interdisciplinary artist who explores sociopolitical issues by reimagining and recontextualizing language and imagery. She employs various techniques in her work, including free-motion embroidery, printmaking, photography, and digital fabrication. Feldman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Post-Baccalaureate in Education from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has served as an artist-in-residence in Chicago at The Gallery 37 Center for the Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. After relocating to San Francisco in 2004, Feldman began teaching in independent schools while further developing her art practice, particularly gaining recognition for her work in free-motion embroidery. Her artwork has been exhibited in notable venues, such as the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco, Site Brooklyn in New York, The New Bedford Art Museum in Massachusetts, and the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, among others. Additionally, her work has been featured in several publications, including Surface Design Journal, Fiber Arts Now and the San Francisco Chronicle. She currently resides and works in San Francisco.
