Refugee Abstract Series

The Refugee Abstract series explores the intersection of aesthetics and human suffering. Drawing inspiration from a found photograph of refugees at sea, this series establishes an initial visual harmony that invites casual appreciation. However, upon closer examination, carefully embedded details reveal details of the desperate journeys undertaken by these individuals across treacherous waters. By creating a tension between aesthetic pleasure and human struggle, the work challenges viewers to confront their passive consumption of tragedy and questions how beauty masks and highlights the refugee experience. This deliberate juxtaposition serves as a meditation on our collective responsibility to look beyond comfortable first impressions and truly engage with the human condition.
